High school students are to have the chance to meet an internationally-acclaimed local author.

Renowned for his spine-tingling horror stories Jon Mayhew, who lives on the Wirral, will be offering talks, workshops and book signing at the University Church of England Academy in Ellesmere Port on Wednesday, March 2.

Author of tales such as Mortlock, The Demon Collector and The Bonehill Curse, Mr Mayhew’s latest books, The Monster Odyssey series, sees Dakkar the hero drawn into a world of the mysterious Count Oginski, a genius inventor with a dark past.

An English teacher for 25 years Mr Mayhew is now a writing fellow for the Royal Literary Fund at Aberystwyth University.

Described as passionate about encouraging young writers and readers he delivers writing workshops in schools and is a patron of reading for two high schools.

During the morning he will talk to Year 7, 8, 9 students about his work while in the afternoon Mr Mayhew will hold workshops for 60 students who will learn tips and techniques to build confidence in story writing and how to improve their creative writing skills.
