New mobile community safety cameras have been deployed in Ellesmere Port and Neston to help combat crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Cheshire West and Chester Community Safety Partnership has contributed £10,000 towards the cost of the initiative.

Ellesmere Port Sutton ward councillor Nicole Meardon (Lab), borough council cabinet member for community safety, said: “Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire West and Chester Council’s community safety team have worked in close partnership to set up this new project to support safer neighbourhoods.

“The cameras will help reassure residents we are aware of their concerns and are working hard to resolve any issues. They can be mounted on most structures and will be used in areas suffering from anti-social behaviour, crime and fly tipping.”

Police Constable Tom Grant added: “We have set up the cameras in locations of concern such as abandoned buildings prone to being set on fire or known drug dealing areas. Having mobile cameras means we can easily move to new locations as required.”

Helen Brackenbury, chairman of the Community Safety Partnership, commented: “The partnership and local councillor Tony Sherlock, ward member for Grange, have both contributed to the purchase of the community safety cameras.

“We are always looking for new ways to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the communities we protect.”
