A school boy and his mother have been taken to hospital after a car accident in Ellesmere Port, say emergency services.

Police were called after reports that a car had collided with a pedestrian on Stanney Lane, at around 8.06am today (Monday, September 15).

A 12-year-old boy was taken to Alder Hey Hospital following the incident at the junction with West Road.

His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The child's mother was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital after tripping while trying to reach her injured child, say police.

Initial reports claimed that incident involved a bus and a motorbike, but police have confirmed it involved a car and a pedestrian.  

The road was closed in both directions as emergency services attempted to deal with the incident, traffic was diverted down Wolverham Road.
