A Cheshire Constabulary officer based at Ellesmere Port police station has pleaded not guilty to taking a patrol vehicle without consent, dangerous driving and damaging property.

PC Kevin Szabo, 39, of Prestatyn, is accused of taking the Vauxhall Astra from Ellesmere Port police station while he was off-duty on January 29 and driving it dangerously along the A55 and A54 to Winsford, where he is alleged to have crashed into the gates of Cheshire Constabulary’s headquarters on Oakmere Road.

Appearing at Chester Crown Court before Judge Roger Dutton this morning (Wednesday, July 16), Szabo denied the three counts.

A further hearing will be held before the Recorder of Chester at Chester Crown Court on July 29 to decide on the venue for the trial, which has been set a provisional date of February 16 and is expected to last between five and seven days.

Szabo will remain on conditional bail until then.
