Two people have been injured in crash on the M53 close to Ellesmere Port.

A BMW DRV and a Toyota Aygo were involved in the collision between junctions 9 and 10 for Cheshire Oaks at about 11.20am on Thursday (September 24).

Emergency services are now on the scene.

Southbound on the motorway is currently closed between the two junctions and northbound is expected to close to allow the air ambulance to land.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and removed the roof to enable them to release one female casualty from the vehicle.

"She was then handed over to the care of paramedics."

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "There are ambulance crews on the scene and the air ambulance has also attended."

Cheshire Police said local diversions were in place and advised motorists to avoid the area at this time.
