A flood alert is in place for Ellesmere Port.

The Environment Agency issued the message at 2.26pm today (September 2).

Ellesmere Port is part of the Wirral catchment area where the alert has been announced.

The Rivacre Brook and its tributaries are among the rivers and brooks being monitored.

A flood alert means flooding is possible and those in the area should 'be prepared'.

An Environment Agency statement said: “River levels are rising due to persistent rain this morning and are forecast to reach their highest levels mid afternoon.

“We are out clearing debris screens to minimise potential blockages and flow restriction.

“Rain is now easing and is expected to clear the area later this afternoon.”

Commuters reported delays and surface water on the roads in the Chester area earlier Wednesday morning.
