Ellesmere Port hero Paul Butler will perform a free-to-watch public workout in his hometown on Saturday, ahead of his bid to become a two-time world champion.

Butler, the former IBF World Super-Flyweight Champion, challenges IBF Word Bantamweight Champion Zolani Tete on Friday, March 6, at the Liverpool Echo Arena in his history making bid to become Britain’s first fighter in more than 100 years to win a second world title at a lighter weight.

Butler describes the fight as ‘massive’ while Tete’s pre match hype has talked up ’eliminating’ his opponent.

Nominated in last year’s Pioneer Your Champions, Butler headlines an action-packed, multi-title show in the Echo Arena alongside fellow Merseyside stars Kevin Satchell, Jazza Dickens, Liam Smith, Tom Stalker, Stephen Lewis and Lancashire hot-talent Jack Catterall.

Big-hitting ace Butler returns to the Port Arcades Shopping Centre after a successful appearance there last October.

The prospect of watching the work out saw huge crowds gathering to watch the young fighter put on a sensational display of his ring craft.

Now undefeated in 17 fights with eight KOs, he will again be put through his paces in an action-packed session by trainer Anthony Farnell and will give fans a glimpse of how preparations are going for the big night.

Butler said: “I’m delighted to return to the Port Arcades again and put on a show and meet the fans ahead of a massive night at the Echo Arena when I face Zolani Tete for the world title.

“It will make me proud to put Ellesmere Port on the world boxing map as the town that holds a double world champion.

“The fans’ support is crucial to me and I hope that they come out and show it on Saturday at the Port Arcades and then at the fight on Friday March 6 at the Liverpool Echo Arena.”

Also putting on a performance for the fans will be amateur boxers and future stars from Wirral Community Police Boxing Club. Butler will meet with the public, sign autographs and pose for pictures.

The workout will take place outside the main entrance to the shopping centre on Mercer Walk.

Top amateurs from the club will be in the ring from 11am-12.30pm, building up to Butler’s appearance from 1pm-2pm.
