A massive multi million pound housing development has gained approval on the edge of the town centre.
Regeneration developer St Modwen has secured planning permission for up to 350 new family homes at the 29 acre former HH Robertson brownfield site on Cromwell Road, Ellesmere Port.
The company says the development is expected to bring 500 construction jobs to the area.
It will feature substantial areas of public open space, footpath and cycle links and provide improved accessibility to Ellesmere Port railway station and the town centre.
There will also be extensive areas of amenity and tree planting including a new avenue along Cromwell Road and the frontage onto the canal will be improved to allow pedestrian access to the local network of footpaths.
Nick Whittingham, land director at St. Modwen, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent for the delivery of up to 350 much needed family homes.
“This will provide a significant contribution to the council’s supply of housing land and will regenerate a former brownfield site, delivering a sustainable, high-quality development. The scheme will be complemented by extensive areas of new open space, local transport and town centre access links.”
He added:“We hope that the development will act as a catalyst for the transformation of the wider area.”
Preparatory work is expected to begin on site towards the end of the year.
