BICKERTON Village Hall is going green as plans were announced to cover its roof with solar-panelled tiles.

Electricity at the hall, used by clubs and organisations, will be converted from light collected by the south-facing panels.

Chief fundraiser Carol Shadbolt is heading the energy-saving scheme and believes the hall will become the village’s leading light in renewable energy.

A government grant for £14,000 was received from Building Research Establishment Ltd but the hall’s fundraising committee is still waiting to see if they will receive an additional £14,000 from the Big Lottery fund as part of its community sustainable energy programme.

Once the tiles have been installed, there will be a public monitoring device in the hall to display how much electricity is being produced and how much carbon dioxide is being saved.

Bickerton Village Hall is home to Bickerton Youth Music Group who supported the Rural Touring Network show – Life of a Failed Popstar – on Wednesday, November 12.

The Bickerton barn dance on Saturday, November 22, will also raise funds for the hall. For tickets or details, call Carol Shadbolt on 01829 782392.
