A Cheshire primary school has struck gold with its science teaching.

Duddon St Peter’s CE Primary School has been awarded the gold level Primary Science Quality Mark.

After 12 months of hard work staff and and a focus group of children, Duddon school is celebrating obtaining the highest award attainable.

Science co-ordinators Melanie Pickering and Holly Tench applied for the award after completing their training to become primary science specialists.

Over the nine months it took to complete the award, they have worked closely with staff, governors and children to meet all the criteria.

Melaine Pickering said: “Science has become a priority in our school once again. Our determination to raise the profile of the subject has paid off and we now have enthusiastic teachers, children and parents.”
