A driver with ‘serious injuries’ has been taken to hospital after a crash on the M56 .

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10am on Wednesday (November 9).

A black Audi and silver Vauxhall Corsa collided eastbound between junctions 10 and 9.

The crash caused the Audi to leave the carriageway and come to rest on its wheels on an embankment.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the driver of the Audi was removed from their car using a back brace.

Cheshire Police said the driver had been taken to Aintree Hospital with ‘serious injuries’.

An inside lane had been closed while the incident was dealt with, but the motorway has now been fully reopened.
