Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A540 near Neston.

At about 5pm today (Wednesday, February 11) emergency services were called to Chester High Road to a report of an RTC involving a coach and a car.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment where he tragically died, Merseyside Police have confirmed.

The driver of the coach is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have closed the road between the Parkgate Lane Junction and the Two Mills traffic lights in Ledsham.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment where he unfortunately died.

"Next of kin are being sought.

"Collision investigators are at the scene and enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"The coach driver is assisting investigators with their enquiries."

Cheshire and Merseyside Police are tweeting messages to motorists asking them to avoid the area.

The road is expected to be closed until 10pm.
