An overturned tanker closed a road on the Denbigh Moors for more than five hours.

The driver of the Chester-based Wirral Fuels vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the accident at roughly 10.40am.

The A543 was closed in both directions between Denbigh and Pentrefoelas to recover the vehicle.

Three fire engines and a technical rescue unit were rushed to the scene after the tanker overturned but the only spill was a minor engine fuel leak.

Police re-opened the road just before 4pm.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service Trust said: "We were called at shortly before 10.45am to reports that a tanker had overturned on the A543 near Bylchau.

"An emergency ambulance attended the scene and a man was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with minor injuries."

Wirral Fuels have thanked the emergency services and recovery workers for their help during the incident.

A spokeswoman said: "The driver of the vehicle is okay and has been released from hospital.

"The emergency services, council workers and breakdown team from Hough Green were excellent and we would like to thank them for their help."
