‘Hundreds’ of drawing pins found on a popular cycle path in Chester are thought to have been dropped there deliberately.

Eagle-eyed Simon Hughes and Ian Doughty, members of Graham Weigh Cycling Team, made the discovery on a morning ride at about 7.30am on Sunday (May 8).

Simon says he spotted ‘a couple of hundred’ of pins on the stretch of path between The Cop and the North Wales border and flagged other cyclists down to stop them going any further.

Four cyclists then diligently picked up the pins and reported the matter to the police.

Simon, from Connah’s Quay, said: “It is a mindless act and it’s disappointing that somebody feels they can do that.

“There could have been repercussions for many people, as the path is very well-used.

“It is not just cyclists being put at risk, it’s everybody using that path – walkers, dog-walkers and children.

“Hopefully coverage will shame whoever did it from doing it again.”

Cheshire police posted about the incident on its social media channels, thanking those who stopped to remove the pins.
