Saltney Gymnastic Club is celebrating once again, this time after two of their elite gymnasts achieved a fantastic first place at the British NDP Championships, held in Stoke-on-Trent last month.

Matt Scott and Aoife Higgins fought off stiff competition from top gymnasts from all over the country to take the gold medal.

Speaking after the medal ceremony, Matt said: “This has been the most amazing experience – I have been doing gymnastics for 11 years and to become British Champion after all those years of training and hard work is a dream come true.”

It was a great weekend for the club who had no less than 10 gymnasts competing at the championships; all earning their places by winning gold medals at the earlier Welsh Championships. Competing for Saltney were Laura McNicholas, Evie Dougherty, Joe Smith, Maia Zieber, Kieran Guy, Sophy Grundy, Liam Robinson and Ciara McNicholas who all gave stunning performances, doing the Club and Welsh Gymnastics proud.

Other recent success for Saltney came in the form of another gold medal, this time for mixed pair Oscar Booth and Anna Boyne representing Wales at the Regional Finals held in Southampton.

Also representing Wales from Saltney were Amy Ryan, Cinty Brackley, Louise Farrall, Sofia Cartwright-Alves, Emily Wynne-Jones, William Lorenz and Oliver Lorenz. All gymnasts gave amazing performances against extremely tough competition.

Club head coach Denise Bayley, and deputy head coach Debbie Lavender said: “We have been astounded by this continued success for the club as we continue to go from strength to strength. To have so many gymnasts representing Saltney at a national and regional level is a dream come true. All their hard work and commitment has paid off and the medals are a fantastic reward for their achievements.

“Some of our gymnasts are retiring from competitive gymnastics this year as they are going to University, so this is a truly fitting end to their gymnastics careers.”

The Club is continuously growing and the coaches are committed to developing each and every gymnast of any ability, from 3 years old through to adult, to enable them to achieve their maximum potential.
