A VILLAGE farm shop is celebrating a double triumph at an annual competition involving the UK’s best bacon producers.

Manor Farm Shop in Tattenhall won gold in the smoked short back bacon and Ayrshire middle bacon categories at the Bacon Connoisseurs Week Awards.

The awards, held at Harper Adams University College in Shropshire, were judged ‘blind’ by industry experts, journalists and bacon enthusiasts.

The family-run farm shop’s award-winning bacon is made using pork from Utkinton, near Tarporley.

Delighted farmer and shop owner Brian Ryder said: “We pride ourselves on quality British bacon and sausages made at our farm shop using the finest local ingredients.

“It means a lot to us to win these awards in a competition which is highly respected.’’

Manor Farm Shop also won two silver awards at last year’s British Sausage Week for its spring onion and ginger sausages and Old Ma’s spicy sausages.

The shop sells vegetables, milk, cream, yoghurt, cheese, free range eggs, lamb, beef, pork, chicken, and homemade cakes and pies.

It also has a café selling homemade meals and families visiting the farm are invited to see the ten newborn saddleback piglets.

Manor Farm Shop is open seven days a week from 8am-5pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays.
