A DOORMAN from a Chester club knocked a couple out and left them unconscious on a city centre dual carriageway.

Craig Thomas Harris, 26, followed three people after they were ejected from the Deva Mail Social Club, Station Road, late on October 2.

CCTV footage played to sentencing judge, His Honour David Hale, at Chester Crown Court on Friday showed the entire incident.

The footage was played by Sion ap Mihangel, prosecuting, without commentary. It showed Harris headbutting, kicking and aiming a barrage of punches at a young man who repeatedly tried to escape the violence.

The incident ended with Harris chasing his victim over the central reservation on St Oswald's Way. He then beat him to the ground and continued the assault.

When one of the complainant's female friends attempted to intervene Harris punched her hard enough to send her over the central reservation barriers and into the overtaking lane of the opposite carriageway.

Judge Hale said: 'The violence I have seen on video was quite disgraceful and you ended up endangering them even more by leaving them unconscious in the middle of the road in the middle of the night - and that within a month of being placed on a suspended sentence.'

Harris, of Brookside Terrace, Hoole, was serving the suspended sentence for two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH) committed in June this year.

Harris, who admitted two charges of ABH and one of common assault, broke down as the sentence was read.

Harris will serve half of the 18 month term but will then be placed under supervision for the rest of a three and a half year sentence Under the Dangerous Offenders Provisions.
