THE team at the Blacon Community Cyber Centre in Chester is celebrating this month after securing a £250 donation, which will help it to continue to offer its services to local residents following funding cuts.

The Blacon Community Cyber Centre provides free computer and internet access seven days a week to members of its surrounding community, to enable them to communicate with their families across the globe.

The centre also hosts a free children’s homework club which has been used by more than 70 children in the region to enhance their education.

The £250 donation was made by David Wilson Homes North West as part of its Our Space, Your Place scheme, and will help to support the day-to-day running of the centre as well as replace damaged IT equipment and furnishings.

Alan Tushingham, treasurer of Blacon Community Cyber Centre, said: “We were absolutely delighted when David Wilson Homes North West offered to support our centre.

“As a voluntary organisation we are reliant on donations and have recently been informed of funding cuts, so were a little worried about the impact these would have on the running of the centre.

“The generous donation from David Wilson Homes North West will go a long way towards helping us to keep the centre open. We would like to offer a big thank you from all our team here and those who use the centre.”

Graham Swann, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, added: “The Blacon Community Cyber Centre is of great value to its local community and offers a fantastic service, so we were thrilled to be able to offer our support.

“We wish the centre the best of luck and look forward to hearing about their progress in the future.”

Our Space, Your Place offers contributions to groups across the North West from £100 to £1000, the only condition is that the funding is used for something that will genuinely enhance or improve a service, facilities or the environment within their local area.
