DODLESTON villagers captured the Giant spirit by creating their very own nine metre Guy.

The iron giant dressed in a wooden costume stood next to the bonfire and was burnt for all to see on Saturday night. They also had a traditional guy which sat on the bonfire.

Cllr Mike Maughan, of Dodleston Parish Council, said: “We were aware of Chester’s rich heritage in giants with the Mid Summer Watch parade and thought we could add to that at our bonfire night by creating a special giant Guy.

“It has been a labour of love between us all to design and create. It is simply stunning.”

Compère Stephen Wundke said: “It was 20 minutes of fireworks, three tonnes of them, and I think people will remember it for years.”
