TWO village churches are celebrating the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible.

St Mary’s Church, Dodleston and All Saints’ Church, Higher Kinnerton will celebrate on Sunday.

At 11am a joint morning prayer service will take place in St Mary’s Church, followed by a ‘bring your own’ picnic lunch on the adjacent village green. There will be an evening prayer service at 3.15pm.

There will also be an exhibition of bibles, prayer books and a display of the life of Sir Thomas Egerton, who attended the Hampton Court Conference when it was decided to proceed with the translation and eventual publication of the King James Bible in 1611.

Sir Thomas Egerton was born close to Dodleston in 1540 and is buried at St Mary’s. .
