DISABLED fans of X Factor star Olly Murs were left feeling “humiliated” when they could not see their idol at a Chester nightclub.

Cruise, on St John Street, Chester city centre, shelled out £7,500 for the services of the X Factor runner up and sold tickets for £5.

They promised a “chance” to meet the star, careful not to guarantee an audience with him. And while the literature promised no extra charges, some Olly fans were shocked to discover they could not take their own photograph with him and would instead have to pay £5 for an official image, taken by a photographer for website chesterevents.com.

Hayley Parsonage, 24, of Bridge Meadow, Ellesmere Port contacted the Chronicle to register her disgust at the way she and her friends, including three wheelchair users, were treated by the nightclub on Friday, April 9.

She said: “My friend was refused access to the middle floor because she was in a wheelchair and the manager informed me their fire evacuation procedures don’t cover more than two wheelchairs at a time on each floor.

“Following a frank discussion with the manager, my friend left the club upset, humiliated and discriminated against.

“I also have a disability myself and after this experience we have all felt discriminated against.

“The club surely need to re-evaluate their access and fire procedures, in order not to offend their paying customers.”

“I rang them up before we went because I know it’s difficult accomodating wheelchairs.

“They said it’s not a problem, you can come to the front.

“They should have just sold however many tickets and said sorry we’re full now.”

Brendan McLoughlin, from Cruise, said tickets stated Ollie would be performing at the venue and there would be a “chance to meet him”.

He added: “The event was not purported to be a one-off concert but as a personal appearance.

Mr McLoughlin said chesterevents.com were given permission to take photographs after promising to veto the results, on the insistence of Olly Murs’ management.

He added: “We had not advertised anything about photo opportunities but nevertheless are sorry if anyone was disappointed in this regard or feel that Chester events.com were excessive in charging £5.

He said the club’s policy is not to discriminate against disabled customers and that he had spoken to members of Hayley’s party, one of whom has volunteered to help with staff training.
