A GENEROUS Runcorn businessman has donated money normally spent on customer Christmas cards to Halton Haven Hospice.

Ted Antrobus, managing director of hygiene and maintenance company Ankem, visited the Barnfield Avenue hospice last week to present a cheque for £100 to house manager Paula Widas.

Mr Antrobus said: 'We thought the Haven would benefit more from the money we would have spent on the cards and postage.

'Christmas is a time for giving and as the Haven has to fund itself we thought every little helps and if other local businesses' join with us, it could make a difference to the Haven.

'If you live in the Halton area you would have known someone who has received fantastic care from the Haven staff and know it is a valuable lifeline for the families as well as the patients.'
