A despicable couple who tried to coerce a 70-year-old woman into giving them more than £30,000 have been jailed.

Daniela Filipache and Gulit Tudor, both 23, preyed on the vulnerable victim in Chester to get her to withdraw £25,000 so they could buy a house.

Two weeks later an accomplice, Dafina Gheorge, 28, demanded money from the woman again as she harassed her in a shop.

All three offenders live in Aspen Road, Liverpool.

Filipache and Tudor pleaded guilty to theft and were jailed for 28 months at Chester Crown Court on August 30.

Gheorge received a four-month prison sentence after also admitting theft.

Detective inspector Karen Jaundrill said: “As a result of an extremely thorough and professional investigation, I am pleased these individuals have been brought to justice after taking advantage of a vulnerable woman.

“These types of offences can have a huge impact on victims.

“We will continue to protect and improve the quality of life for our community.”

Filipache tried to get the victim to withdraw £25,000 from Natwest Bank in Chester on March 24.

Cheshire Police were alerted after the woman said it was to help someone she did not know to buy a property. Filipache was arrested the same day.

Just over two weeks later on April 5, Gheorge chased the victim around a shop in Chester asking for yet more money.

This time Gheorge and Filipache were taken into custody and charged.

Tudor was arrested after the police investigation found he had been working as a co-conspirator.

It also revealed the offenders had stolen £5,400 from the victim, and attempted to get £25,000 more.
