Motorway police are warning of delays on the M56 following an accident involving an HGV and an overturned car on the west-bound carriageway.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the incident, which happened about 3.35pm today (Thursday, March 12) between the Runcorn and Daresbury junctions.

It is believed the male driver of a silver Peugeot 206 was out of the car when emergency services arrived and suffered only minor injuries. However, the air ambulance attended the scene.

Cheshire police say the car driver was taken by road ambulance to Warrington General Hospital as a precaution. A lane closure was put in place to aid the recovery of the vehicle.

North West Motorway Police tweeted: “RTC with overturned car in lane 1, M56 W/B J11-12 Preston Brook-Clifton. Delays in the area. Minor injury. Assistance from @NWAirAmbulance.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident to make the car safe.
