A spoonful of sugar was served up at Delamere CE Academy at the end of term as  children entertained parents, family and friends with two performances ofMary Poppins.

Talented children aged seven to 11 gave their all, following weeks of hard work under the leadership of actress, teacher and drama specialist Sarah Spence, with the support of a team of dedicated teachers.

The performance took place in the new school hall, which was part of an extension to the school that was completed in June this year.

Dr Penny Preston, whose son George Casson played a reporter in the show, said: “The acting, singing and dancing were superb and greeted by cheers and rapturous applause - all this at a school that was under threat of closure only a few years ago.

“Mary Poppins was a wonderful show and a fitting finale to a great year at Delamere Academy.”

Earlier this year, all the junior children were entered for LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) exams with excellent results.
