RESIDENTS and businesses are being urged to protect their properties against freezing pipes as wintry weather has belatedly hit the area.

Plunging temperatures have led to Dee Valley Water reminding householders and staff there are a few simple things they can do to prevent problems.

The water firm’s managing director Norman Holladay said: “Customers have a key role to play to ensure their pipes are sufficiently lagged and to insulate water tanks and pipes in non-heated spaces such as lofts or garages to prevent them from freezing.

“If your home or business suffers frozen or burst pipes, it could leave you with a hefty bill and without a water supply.

“It is always useful to know the location of your stop tap and to ensure it is working correctly should the inevitable happen.”

Dee Valley Water has prepared a leaflet, titled Wrap Up For Winter, which gives handy tips on how to prevent freezing or burst pipes, and what to do should the worst happen.
