A charity is looking for deaf children and their families who might benefit from a successful project.
The Deafness Support Network (DSN) has completed the first year of its I’m Hear! Project, funded by BBC Children in Need, and has supported more than 20 children, young people and their families over the last 12 months.
As the project enters its second year, organisers are appealing for more parents or carers to get in touch if they would like to access practical support to improve communication with children experiencing any level of hearing loss.
Support sessions are arranged to fit in with busy family life and provide a range of different communication techniques. Anything from one to 10 sessions are available and are tailored to meet the needs of each individual child and their family.
Family events for deaf children lined up for 2016
Support can be offered to families across Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Halton, Warrington and Wirral.
In addition to offering these home-based support sessions, in 2016 I’m Hear! will host a number of family events for deaf children and their families during school holidays, offering the opportunity for families to support each other and socialise.
Project co-ordinator Pam Craige said: “Communication is really important for children and young people with any level of hearing loss to integrate with the family so improving communication paves the way for greater inclusion in so many area of their lives. We are seeking to reduce the isolation which deaf children and young people so often experience.”
