IT was bound to be a winning double when Crewe couple Clare Bevan and Daz Taylor decided to get married.

Cupid's arrow became a dart as they decided to tie the knot at Blackpool.

For Clare, 30, and Daz, 25, who live in Henry Street, were wed during the semi-finals of the Stan James World Matchplay Darts Tournament and celebrated cheering on their favourites on the oche at the Winter Gardens.

Witnesses at the ceremony at Black-pool Register Office were a couple from Lincolnshire they met watching the tournament and among the first to congratulate them were some of the world's best players as well as the pundits from Sky TV.

Web salesman Daz and full-time mum Clare met six years ago when they both worked at Gregory's nightclub at Nantwich and have a three-year-old son Daniel.

Clare said: 'We're not religious and we didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on getting married so we thought about getting married at Crewe Register Office.

'But we do like darts and had already booked tickets to the World Matchplay and a bed and breakfast in Blackpool back in January.

'Then we suddenly thought 'why not get married in Blackpool?' It turned out the register office was near the Winter Gardens and they squeezed us in.

'After it came out at the darts that we had got married that day it all went mad but it was lovely.

'We were treated like VIPs, inter-viewed on Sky TV and invited to meet the players and get their autographs.

'Among them was my hero, Pete Manley, who was absolutely fantastic. We had a good chat and he seemed really pleased to meet us and knocked out that it was our wedding night.

'We also met boxing world champion Ricky Hatton who was there watching Phil Taylor and he was lovely and dead down to earth.'

Daz, a darts fans since he was a boy, added: 'It was fantastic. We ended up with more fuss than a traditional wed-ding but it was perfect.'

The couple stayed to see the final next day it which Phil Taylor beat James Wade and have already planned the celebrations for their first wedding anniversary - a trip to the tournament next year.
