An aspiring ballerina at the Hammond School in Chester was left ‘starstruck’ after Strictly Come Dancing judge Darcey Bussell visited pupils on Friday (November 18).

The 47-year-old judge on the BBC celebrity dance show spent the day at the performing arts school coaching ballet classes to young dancers.

Students of all ages performed in front of Ms Bussell, considered by many in the dance world to be worthy of the title prima ballerina assoluta, in the Hammond Theatre all morning before answering questions from pupils intrigued to hear all about her life as a dancer.

Pupils took to social media to express their feelings following Ms Bussell’s visit, with one pupil saying being taught by the professional ballerina was ‘a dream come true’.

Another said it was ‘one of the best days’ of her life.

The ex Royal Ballet Principal dancer visited the school ahead of the top BBC show’s Blackpool Bonanza on the weekend.

It was not the first time Ms Bussell has been to Chester. In May 2013, Darcey and her husband Angus Forbes attended the Audi Royal Polo Challenge 2013 at Chester Racecourse.
