A SHOWDOWN meeting on Monday will discuss the Ince Marshes Incinerator.

Councillors want to hear the views of developers and opposing campaign groups to the Ince Resource Recovery Park before making a recommendation.

Peel Holdings says the park would create 1,100 jobs and help to meet Government targets.

A 100m stack would burn 600,000 tons a year of refuse-derived fuel to create 95MW of electricity but residents fear it will produce harmful emissions.

Protest groups, councils and representatives from primary care trusts will be invited to give presentations at County Hall.

Eight parish councils have been invited to the meeting from Helsby, Ince, Elton, Christleton, Little Stanney, Manley, Kingsley and Frodsham.

Andrew Lorrimar, of Residents Against Incineration, said: 'I am preparing the presentation on behalf of our members.

'It is a good idea that the committee will listen to its constituents, which is what they are there for at the end of the day.

'We will be concentrating on three main arguments: The importation of waste from outside Cheshire, opposition to the method of incineration and opposition to the use of a greenfield site when there are useable brownfield sites.

'It should be useful to the committee and ourselves as we can answer questions put to us rather than them just reading it in a report.'
