A PEDESTRIAN crossing installed on Queen's Park Road in Handbridge has proved a great success withresidents.

Councillor Razia Daniels said: “Local people were telling me how they really needed a pedestrian crossing as the traffic can be so very busy.

“We used funding from the members’ budget grant to part-fund this project, and since the installation of the crossing I've have received a lot of positive comments from local people saying how it has made their lives much easier.”

Partially-sighted resident Lynn Alexander said: “Crossing the road is so much easier for me now.

“Before I had to wait for ages for a gap in the traffic and motorists didn't always notice my white stick. The crossing now means I can cross quickly and safely.”

Grants of £10,000 are allocated to each councillor at the beginning of each financial year and must be used within a ward for community benefit.

Any community group, organisation or individual can apply to their local councillor for aid with funding for a project. Grants must be in excess of £250.
