Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted theft of a cash machine in Ellesmere Port.

A dark coloured car reversed up to the entrance of the Co-op in Hope Farm Precinct at 10.45pm on Boxing Day (December 26) and two men forced their way into the store, which was closed at the time.

The men then tried to remove the cash machine by force but fled empty handed.

At 11.20pm the same evening the car believed to be involved was found burnt out in Beaumaris Drive, Ellesmere Port.

Detective Constable Tom Davies said: “We would appeal to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area of Hope Farm Precinct and Beaumaris Drive or who has any information that may help us with our enquiries to contact us.”
