FIREFIGHTERS will be pulling a classic fire engine around Winsford next weekend to raise cash for a local man's prostate cancer charity.

The old appliance will be pulled around one lap of the town centre from noon on Saturday, December 16, by fire service staff.

Cash raised will go to the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, run by Winsford man Gary Steele, which is raising £30,000 to buy equipment which will enable Leighton to carry out certain types of keyhole surgery, while money will also be donated to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

A spokesman for Winsford Fire Brigade said: 'We are hoping to raise the target and also promote awareness to reduce the present high mortality from prostate cancer.'
