Wedding mornings are usually hectic affairs.

There’s the rush to get ready, plans to finalise and guests to welcome.

But Paul and Liz Humphries somehow found time to take on the Delamere Parkrun in wedding attire hours before saying ‘I do’.

The couple from Hoole Bank, near Mickle Trafford, could not face changing their weekly ritual on Saturday mornings.

So they asked their friends and fellow runners to dress up for a jog on the special occasion.

Paul said: “It was a fantastic day. Everything just slipped into place.

“We’re quite a chilled couple.

“The run started at 9am, Liz was having her hair done at 10.30am and then we were in the registry office just in time for midday.

“Some people get nervous on their wedding day, but it was just great to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

Paul, a mechanic, and Liz, a teacher at Christleton High School, have known each other for five years.

Liz had just got back from a four-week Christleton High trip to Borneo in the days before the wedding.

Together they have been taking part in the 5km Delamere Parkrun for the last 18 months.

The event at Delamere Forest has about 300 regulars as runners come to help keep fit each Saturday morning.

In the end there was no question the couple would be missing a week despite it being their big day on August 20.

But it did not stop there, Liz wore a dress and Paul a waistcoat and top hat on top of their usual running gear.

They also encouraged their friends to get into the spirit.

Paul said: “It started out us doing the run as normal on our wedding day and then the idea came up to do it in wedding gear.

“We’ve got a circle of friends there and I just thought it would be a good idea to get everybody involved.

“Happily people were up for it.

“Some put signs up along the route and we even had plastic cans to drag along like a wedding car.”

The newlyweds were then straight off to Malaga in Spain for their honeymoon, but were back in time for the following Saturday.
