A SURPRISE donation of £6,160 towards highways improvements in Frodsham has been welcomed by town councillors.

The money was left over from Cheshire West and Chester councillors Lynn Riley and Andrew Dawson’s individual member budgets for 2012-13, totalling more than £31,000, after the pair handed out £25,222 to community groups and good causes.

Cllr Riley , currently Mayor of Frodsham, and Cllr Dawson, a former town mayor, said they decided to transfer the combined balance to help the town council with match-funding for future highways improvement projects.

Welcoming the donation, Cllr Frank Pennington also thanked the borough councillors “for all the work you’ve done locally.”

He said: “All the money you have given out has been well spent and residents have seen something for it. I think we should take a leaf out of your books.”
