CONTRACTORS from Chester’s new John Lewis store spent their weekend giving a Blacon community centre a boost.

Workers from RG Group, the main construction company on the Greyhound Retail Park site, joined subcontractors to donate their time and materials to refurbishing the Blacon Community Trust centre.

The volunteers decorated, cleaned, repaired classroom walls and floors, replaced toilet fittings and built a screen across the gym hall to create an extra space.

The spruced-up centre in Blacon Point Road was reopened on Monday.

Blacon Community Trust chairwoman Clare Babbs said: “We would like to thank RG Group, the subcontractors and John Lewis for this fantastic makeover.

“It will make a real difference to the children’s learning and playing experiences.”

RG Group is a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and Bryony Levermore, assistant project manager for RG on the John Lewis project, said: “We are delighted to be involved with Blacon Community Trust and are delighted we were able to help them while we are in town.”
