THE possibility of alcohol sales at a village pharmacy has worried councillors.
Littlers Pharmacy has applied for a licence to sell alcohol from Monday to Saturday.
Tarvin Parish Council expressed concern at a meeting about the number of licensed premises in the village and the aggravation of anti-social drunken behaviour.
However, owner Ian Littler says he only wishes to sell a small selection of quality wines and tonics, which will not encourage under-age drinking.
He said: 'You can't really buy a really good quality bottle of wine in the village so we thought a small range, along with some wine tonics and old fashioned beers, would be a welcome addition to the High Street. It is not a big change, we are not becoming an off licence.'
At the parish meeting, Cllr Pet Twigg said: 'I do have a problem with the sale of alcohol.
'Young people are definitely accessing it already, you can tell by the beer bottles on High Street.'
A licensing hearing will be held next Tuesday at the Town Hall at 10.30am.
