A COMPLAINT has been made against council leader Mike Jones in relation to him calling two members of the public ‘d***heads’ at a meeting.

Tattenhall resident Colin Oats told the Chronicle he has lodged a complaint, believing the Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) leader was in breach of the Code of Conduct for Members.

He added: “I don’t think people should be spoken to like that.”

Mr Oats had overheard Cllr Jones make the offensive comment during a public meeting called by Tattenhall Parish Council on July 31 to discuss plans by Redrow Homes to build up to 70 houses in the village.

The following day, in a statement released by the council press office, Cllr Jones said he regretted making the comment, adding it was related to two individuals in connection with a separate current planning application.

The complaint is currently being considered by the council’s monitoring officer Simon Goacher who is expected to reach a decision on what action should be taken, if any, by next week.

He could decide to take no action, arrange training or mediation or ask for a formal investigation.

The monitoring officer’s decision to take no action on a complaint would be final and could not be reviewed.

CWaC spokesman Ian Callister said: “The council does not comment on complaints that members have acted in breach of the code of conduct.

“All cases are dealt with in accordance with the approved procedure for dealing with such complaints.”
