A HUGE throng of friends and family celebrated the 21st birthday of top Rainhill fundraiser and Weekly News Community Champion Michelle Lewis.
Michelle, who is the youngest person to be awarded an MBE, has raised almost £2m for worthy causes as well as carving herself a reputation as a leading disabled athlete. She had her birthday bash at Liverpool's Crown Plaza Hotel, attended by more than 150 guests.
Michelle said: 'I've been trying not to cry because I am so happy to see everyone.
'I've been thinking a lot about my childhood and growing up and that makes me well up, because there have been so many happy memories.'
Michelle, who is now living in Cheltenham, received a number of birthday cards from high profile well-wishers including the Prime Minister.
Michelle's incredible achievements come despite a lifetime suffering from a condition known as arthrogryposis which has forced her to undergo 28 painful operations to date.
Michelle's grandma Sylvia Lewis said: 'I would like to thank all the people who attended and those who sent their best wishes.
'It was fantastic occasion which raised a lot of money for charity.'
