A collision involving two vehicles on the M56 near Hapsford is causing severe delays for motorists this morning (October 22).

The crash occurred at around 7am between junctions 14 and 15.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police confirmed there had been no injuries but advised motorists to avoid the area.

All lanes of the motorway have now been reopened but there is queuing traffic on the M56 eastbound between junctions 12 and 14, and severe congestion on the A5117, M53 southbound to junction 10 and M53 northbound towards Chester on junction 12 and the A55.

According to the Highways Agency, there are delays of 30 minutes and normal traffic conditions are expected to resume from 9.45am.

The collision occurred in the same area as the fatal multi-vehicle collision which claimed two lives earlier this month.
