MID-CHESHIRE College's status as the county's first centre of vocational excellence in new media has been recognised.

The unveiling of a plaque, attended by business leaders and dignitaries, showcased the college's resources and spotlighted some of the other awards gained by students in art and design.

Vale Royal's deputy mayor, Anne Hooker, who said she was greatly impressed by the quality of teaching on offer at the college, launched the event.

She said: 'I have been given a guided tour of the facilities here and I think it's marvellous. Everything is so up to date, which is not only good news for the people who live locally and who use the college, but it also attracts students, and employers, from out of the area.'

The college's head of art and design, Simon Andrews, told guests the status represents a magnificent achievement.

'This is also a fantastic opportunity for the college to go forward,' he said. 'Not only will we be able to create even more opportunities for our students, but employers will also benefit from the highly skilled students who then graduate from the college.'
