A FORMER cleaner who stole DVDs from a city centre stationery store where she worked has been ordered to serve a 12-month community rehabilitation order.

Appearing before Chester magistrates on Friday, Laura Elaine Broome, 35, claimed the reason she had stolen seven DVDs and a VHS video tape from W H Smith because she had debt problems.

Prosecuting, Glyn Rankin said Broome, of Aldford Road, Upton, was removing the items by hiding them in refuse bags.

Broome was given a 12-month community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £50 in costs.
