TRAIN enthusiasts can enjoy a picturesque trip on board a world famous steam engine as it allows passengers to get on board in Chester for the first time.

For many years the steam hauled Cathedrals Express has been transporting passengers on luxurious day trips from London to Chester.

But, on April 20, rail enthusiasts will be able to travel in style as the A1 Class 60163 Tornado – a replica of a class completely scrapped in the 1960s – stops off at the station on the way to Its final destination in Holyhead, North Wales.

Passengers will be able to enjoy picturesque views as the train – which cost £3 million and took more than 20 years for a team to build-steams along the North Coast of Wales, crossing two of Britain’s most famous railway bridges –the Tubular Bridge and the Britannia Bridge.

Back in 2009 the Tornado, which started running in 2008, was the star of a famous Top Gear race to Edinburgh where Jeremy Clarkson helped to fire the locomotive as it raced from Kings Cross to the Scottish capital.

Now passengers will have the option of fares ranging from £79 for a premium standard ticket, including complimentary tea and coffee throughout the journey, to premier and pullman style dining costing £185, including a champagne brunch on the outwards journey and a two course dinner on the return in a restored 1950s carriage.

Tickets for the trip, organised by Steam Dreams, can be bought online at http://www.steamdreams.co.uk or by calling Marcus Robertson, Chairman of Steam Dreams, on 07774214048.
