Ultra marathon man Chris Gatrell from Ellesmere Port is on the final leg of his nine months of endurance.

He leaves for Vegas tomorrow (Thursday) for the World’s Toughest Mudder, which will be his 14th endurance challenge in the last nine months.

Chris has so far raised £2,785 for Cystic Fibrosis, in aid of his friend’s daughter Theadora Brace from Penyffordd.

Chris said: “The last nine months of racing have absolutely flown by and the last big challenge is finally on single figure countdown.

“The weather in Vegas is scheduled to be 20C in the daytime but below freezing at night, which should make for an interesting race.”

The obstacles in Vegas are in the process of being released for the event and will continue to be unveiled until the day before the race.

Chris added: “I go to Vegas this year far more prepared than last year after hours of personal training sessions with Jon Fairhurst from JGF fitness in Heswall, countless bootcamp classes with Gary Sidney and Sandy Towers from Forward Fitness.

Chis will be having a farewell dinner with Theadora and her family tonight (Wednesday) and will get some more words of encouragement.

Chris said: “All the continued messages of support and donations from everyone have been absolutely unbelievable – and overwhelming at times.”

Updates throughout the 24-hour endurance will come from Chris’ loyal pit crew, girlfriend Yasmin Peacock, brother Michael Gatrell and sister-in-law Amanda Gatrell.

Chris said: "A quote from last years race which gets me very excited is “when is the last time you did something for the first time”….hopefully completing 75 miles for the first time.”
