It's just over six weeks until the 2014 Chester Food Drink and Lifestyle Festival, brought to you by Allington Hughes Law, descends on Chester Racecourse.

And organisers are delighted to confirm that the Academy of Culinary Arts will be providing a series of free children’s cooking classes again this year.

Academy North West chef James Holden said: “Each year our cooking classes for children just get more and more popular.

“Last year we had over 900 children cook with us and we could easily have done another 900 if we had room.

“Cooking is not just popular with adults but children love to know what they are eating and how to cook it.”

The free classes are taking place every day in three separate sessions each day with two workshops per session.

They will again be popular and organisers are urging parents to book on line when they buy their tickets to ensure they get their children in to the class they want. The classes are free and booking costs nothing.

Principal organiser Stephen Wundke says this is what the festival is all about.

“When we started this over 10 years ago the prime objective was to connect people with local foods and now with over 150 exhibitors and 30,000 people expected over the three days this event is the largest food and drink event that takes place anywhere in the UK at Easter time, something of which we are very proud.

“However I don’t think any of us thought that the children’s cooking classes would be one of the most requested activities and we are so pleased so many children are getting the opportunity through the academy and James Holden and his team to get up close and personal with food. It’s been a real bonus.”

The children’s cooking classes include making a pasta dish, making a tortilla and a Biryani, all with local produce, to show how you can integrate flavours from across the world with our brilliant Cheshire and North West produce.

The Chester Food and Drink festival takes place from April 19-21 at Chester Racecourse.
