CHESTER Cathedral is to echo to the sound of children singing.

Youngsters from from Kelsall Primary School, JH Godwin Primary School in Blacon and Dodleston Primary are to take part in a singing afternoon at the cathedral on Tuesday, November 17.

Musicians from the cathedral’s music team have been visiting the schools since the beginning of term.

They have been working on songs with the children and cathedral choristers have been going along as well.

Children from all three schools will be at the cathedral on Tuesday to take part in vocal workshops with boys and girls from the cathedral choir.

The afternoon will culminate in a special evening service at 5.30pm.

The preparatory work and the workshops form part of the Chorister Outreach Programme, which is part of the National Music Manifesto, funded by the Government.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage cathedrals throughout the country to share their musical expertise with their local communities.

“Chester Cathedral is certainly playing its part”, said a spokesman for the cathedral.
