Children from primary schools all over Chester sang out to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support at the Catholic High School in Handbridge.

Youngsters from St Werburgh and St Columbas, St Theresa’s, St Clare’s, St Lukes, The Kings School Infants (Willow Lodge), Hoole and the University Church primary schools took part in the project.

The children worked throughout the term with support from their teachers learning a variety of songs related to living in peace, working together to build a better world and believing in themselves. Songs included Reach for the Stars, Better Together, Musical Memories and Life is a Song.

They then came together at the high school to rehearse before performing to friends and family in the afternoon.

Rachael Borman, who co-ordinates the primary school Big Sing events, said she was very proud of the Year 2 children’s performance.

She said: “The primary big sings are growing in popularity and the standard of singing and music making is improving every year - I am thrilled that through projects like this we are able to help build on children’s confidence, self esteem and also support other people in need too.”

The event raised more than £250 for the charity.
