ASPIRING athletes have added to their silverware after a string of sporting successes.

Children at Helsby Hillside Primary School, Bates Lane, are celebrating after wiping out the competition in a string of tennis, cricket and swimming tournaments.

Last week both the girls and boys cricket teams battled to the school cricket semi-finals in Ellesmere Port where they competed against three schools from across Birkenhead and Northwich, before narrowly loosing out on the top prize.

Meanwhile year four pupils served up a storm at the Mini Red Tennis Competition at Helsby Community Sports Club before competing against the best schools from across Cheshire in the semi finals.

Speaking about the childrens’ sporting efforts headteacher Craig Richardson said: “We enter the competitions for the children to have fun.

“It is nice to win, we have enjoyed a winning streak at the moment and the children have really enjoyed it. We are all really proud of their achievements.”

The school has also enjoyed recent wins in swimming, golf and Taekwondo, triumphing in inter-school competitions in Frodsham and Helsby.
