GREEN-FINGERED youngsters will be teaching their school friends a lesson in how to make their community cleaner.

Children from Frodsham have been elected as junior environment officers to help spread key carbon reducing messages.

The youngsters join others elected by primary schools in Northwich and Winsford to spread the message of the 3Rs - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle – and helped educate their friends, family and school communities about local litter issues.

Under the Cheshire West and Chester Council scheme, the latest junior recruits are also encouraged to prepare presentations for school assemblies and organise fun activities in school throughout the year, such as running competitions, rubbish-free lunches, designing posters and recycling Christmas cards, as well as litter picks.

The children were presented with certificates at a special launch event at Winsford Lifestyle Centre, and they also received special handbooks with information and tips on making the most of their term of office.
