BATTLE will commence at this year’s Chester Rocks as the city’s unsigned bands compete for the chance to perform live at the festival’s opening.

Organisers of the two day music event have revealed that one local, unsigned act will get the chance to play the main stage opening slot when the festival starts on Saturday, June 16.

The lucky winners will get the chance to share the stage with stars including Pixie Lott, Tinchy Stryder, The Courteeners, Katy B and Cast, who are all confirmed for the extravaganza.

Musicians should send their entries in CD format to Telford’s Warehouse or Dawsons music store by Friday, April 13, where they will be judged by a panel that includes Gavin Matthews from Dee 106.3, Mike Devoy from Telford’s Warehouse and Sam Salisbury from Dawsons.

They will select five finalists to perform in a final at Telford’s Warehouse on Thursday, May 31, with the lucky the winners scooping the chance of a lifetime.

Chester Rocks coordinator Anthony Probyn said: “Unsigned artists are always keen to be involved with local events, and as a result we are pleased to offer the opportunity for a deserving band to play the main stage opening slot at Chester Rocks 2012.

“The selection panel all work for established radio, retail or live music providers in Chester and the inclusion of a live final in the city’s premier music venue helps to ensure that the best act will win.”
